Michael Hersch | Guest Composer Lecture

The New Music Ensemble and the TU Department of Music are pleased to welcome renowned composer Michael Hersch for a special guest lecture. Described as a composer of “uncompromising brilliance” (The Washington Post) and praised by The New York Times for music that is “viscerally gripping and emotionally transformative… claustrophobic and exhilarating at once, with moments of sublime beauty nestled inside thickets of dark virtuosity,” Hersch is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive voices of his generation. In this public presentation, Hersch will share insights into his compositional practice and discuss selected works, offering audiences a rare opportunity to engage directly with his artistic process. The event will include discussion, critical listening, and open dialogue, inviting students, faculty, and the broader community into a dynamic exchange centered on creativity, expression, and contemporary music.
