About This Event
John Blevins, associate research professor in the Hubert Department of Global Health at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health, will give a talk titled "Religion and Public Health After the Liberal Protestant Consensus: Past Partnerships, Present Tensions, and New Terms of Engagement," supported by the Dialogue Innovation Fund and co-sponsored by the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics.
Blevins' interdisciplinary scholarship examines the complex ways religion shapes public health. At Emory, he directs the Interfaith Health Program and social-behavioral sciences for the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance program. His work spans health beliefs and practices, health policy, sexuality and reproductive health, HIV, and global health, with extensive research and practice in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. He is the author of Christianity's Influence on United States Global Health and Development Policy \(Routledge, 2019\) and has published widely on religion, health, sexuality, stigma, and faith-based engagement in global public health.
All are welcome. Open to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff across disciplines.
