Columbia Pro Cantare: Brahms' Schicksalslied

CPC opens its 50th Anniversary Season on October 24, 2026 featuring Schicksalslied by Johannes Brahms. Brahms began work on Schicksalslied \(Song of Fate\) in 1868, just months after the premiere of his seminal work, Ein Deutsches Requiem \(A German Requiem\). Inspired by a poem by Friederich Holder, Schicksalslied contrasts the happy lives of the gods with the unhappy fate of humankind. Contemporary works-- “A Little Jazz Mass” by Bob Chilcott and “Your Soul is Song,” by Jake Runestad-- provide a counterpoint to the Brahms.
